The Best Choice I Ever Made!

6 Wonderful years ago, I made probably on of the greatest moves in my life. Under the thoughtful urgings of on great friend I started to look for a new dog, one that I would call my own to replace the family dog that I had the responsibility to put down. The choice to put down the family dog of 16 years was not an easy one, but anyone who was in Colorado for the summer of 2002 can remember just how hot it was and to have a dog that old just walk around the kitchen for hours trying to find a place to get cool, made the decision that much easier. This wonderful friend of mine realized that I needed to have a dog in my life; she volunteered to go with me to the Denver Dumb Friends League to start looking for a new dog. After the first trip, it came very clear to me that I need to figure out what kind of dog I wanted. So after many more trips to the DDFL and nothing to show for it. I decided to hold off and look on the DDFL's website and wait till the dog I was looking for, became available. So on June 30, 2002 I looked on the web and saw the dog. All that I saw was a cute little face of a Siberian Husky with blue eyes, nothing else. I showed the picture to my friend and we both agreed that this was the dog for me. So we headed for the DDFL to try to adopt the dog that was listed as "Bubbles", once we got to the DDFL we found out that Bubbles was on a pure-bread hold and that unless I was on that list I would not be able to adopt her till after 3 in the afternoon. While we were talking with the receptionist, a very rude lady sitting next to the front counter says that "Bubbles" is her dog and that she is going to adopt her no matter what. At the urging of my friend to fight this "Bitch" I felt that I should just walk around the DDFL and take a look and see the dogs to calm my self down. While we were walking around, one of the volunteers had "Bubbles" out of her kennel and we got the chance to pet her. I knew at that moment, that somehow or another this dog was going to be mine. Well after waiting for 3 o'clock to come and go and to get called up to the counter to talk with an adoption counselor and to find out that the "Bitch" was in the process of adopting "Bubbles", I decided that I wanted a Husky and that I should put myself on the pure-bread list. So me and my friend left the DDFL again empty handed, feeling a little down about what occurred we headed home. On the following Saturday, July 6, my mom answers the phone at their house and tells me that it is for me. On the phone was the DDFL letting me know that they had a 3 month old Siberian Husky for adoption. I proceeded to get online and look up the dog. To my surprise and great happiness, I see the same picture from the week before, "Bubbles" had been returned by the "Bitch". I immediately call up my friend and tell her the good news. She tells me that she has to work till 1, but is willing to go with me to go get my dog. So after several phone calls to the DDFL to make sure that no one else has beat me to the dog, we get to the DDFL a little before 2. After checking in, the receptionist tells us that this is a popular dog, because she has fielded my phone calls about her. We proceed to tell her the story from the week before and that I was the one that kept calling, she tells us that she will get us moving quickly so that we can get "Bubbles" So by 3 we are on our way home with "Bubbles". The story behind, "Bubbles" is that she was first dropped off by her first owners, saying that they did not have the proper yard for a husky and that’s why she was first dropped off. The "Bitch" returned "Bubbles" because her kid was scared of her. So here this woman sat at the DDFL just as long as I did and never even thought of bringing her kid with her, lesson #1 learned. So in the end I was "Bubbles" 3 owner in just over a week. Once home, I learned that I had my great friends. My parents left for vacation on the 7th, so it was just me and her. My friends we wonderful, they helped me out. Letting her out when needed, feeding her and walking her for me, so that I could go to work and still have a life. For all of you thank you from the bottom of my heart, I can never repay you for help.So you may ask why this was the greatest move of my life. I realized that I needed to make changes in my life to succeed in life. I decided to quit my full-time job, get back into school and focus on my education and get a degree in Turf Management. So knowing that support of the great and wonderful friends of mine I knew that I could do it. Flash forward to the present. 6 years ago yesterday I came home with "Bubbles", that name lasted a full 1 minute at the DDFL before we came home. "Cleo" has brought me much joy in my life. I graduated college with a degree in Turf Management, I got full time job. So here’s the kicker how life comes back full circle. I find myself in the same job as I was in 6 years ago, but this time at the encouragement of friends and co-workers I took it. So I know that I will need my friends and family again to support me over the next 6 years so that I can reach my next goal, whatever it may be. I am looking forward to it. So please enjoy the journey that I am about to take. So I thank you Erica for all that you did for me, Ben, Audrey, Paul, Dana and everyone else thank you.
